The lowest fare is not always cheapest

Visit only one agents website to search flight prices and you could be forgiven for thinking the lowest fare was the cheapest available.

However, there is no fixed price for a flight and since agents can compete with each other for business it is common to find the same flight offered by various agents at differing prices. This means that the lowest fare shown on any one website may not be the cheapest price for that particular flight and is the reason why most travel experts recommend you search multiple sites if you are looking for the best deals available.

No single agent will offer the best deal on every single flight and depending on the day you search, your chosen route and the duration of your trip any could currently have the lowest price available.

To show how prices differ we have included real life examples of our short and long haul flights search carried out on 7th February 2011. These are just shown so you can see how the price of a flight can differ and if you did the same search today it is quite likely the agent who was most expensive could now be the cheapest and vice versa.

If you are using a comparison site you should also bear in mind that different sites show flights and fares from there own preferred suppliers so as with agents the prices listed can differ from one comparison site to another.

When comparing prices don't forget about the additional fees that can be charged by the airline once you commence the booking process. On short haul flights with a budget airline you will normally incur extra charges if you need to check in hold luggage which can easily add another £20 or more to each leg of your flight.

We searched for a return flight from London Gatwick to Faro, Portugal departing 08/07/11 and returning 15/07/11 using our flight search and recommended agents

The Easyjet flight did not include a luggage allowance which would add £22 for one hold item taking the price to £137.98 if this was required.

Remember these examples are just provided to show how prices can differ at any moment in time from agent to agent and do not illustrate that any individual agent is more competitive than another overall.
